Decision Of U.S. Justice Department
Yale University, a private Ivy League college in New Haven, Connecticut, was founded in 1701. The first Black graduate was Edward Bouchet in 1874, like W.E.B Dubois, who graduated from Harvard in 1890. Richard Henry Green was an earlier student in the Yale College class of 1857. Ivy League Universities understood early on an obligation to educate Black Americans due to their citizenship tenure and entitlement to address their history of racism. That is basic to America's atonement for slavery, discrimination and systemic racism.
Federal data show that Yale's undergraduate student body is 40% white, 20% Asian, 14% Hispanic/Latino, 8% Black and 7% Multiracial. Note that the Black category also includes African and Caribbean immigrants. The other 10% is from foreign countries. Yet, Asian American groups are calling fowl the use of "race" to determine admissions at Ivy League colleges.
A two year investigation by the U.S Justice Department of their complaints found that race was a "determinative factor in hundreds of admission decisions each year." Attorney Eric Dreiband in the civil rights division, claimed that Yale grants "substantial and often determinative preferences to certain racially-favored applicants (Black) and disfavors others (White and Asian). He further claims that "Asian Americans and white applicants have "only one-tenth to one-fourth of the likelihood of admission as African American applicants with comparable academic credentials."
"There is no such thing as a nice form of discrimination," states Mr. Dreiband.
Affirmative Action was adopted in America and across the world to address systemic disadvantages of minority groups. The U.S. Supreme Court has ruled that universities may use race as an admission factor to help minority applicants get into college. Last year, a federal judge granted Harvard a victory against Students for Fair Admissions who brought suit from Asian American complaints of discrimination.
What causes a nation of natives, immigrants, refugees and residents to so dismiss the history of those damaged by historical practices that have not been adequately addressed, to think of how America can serve THEIR GROUP first? They use civil rights laws set in place to correct wrongs done to Black Americans including the 13th, 14th and 15th Amendments to claim the inheritance of those wronged people. MOVE OVER!
The Color of Wealth in Los Angeles Report reveals the gap between ethnic groups that tells a shocking truth that is seen throughout America. Using White households as the standard with $110.000 in assets, we see ADOS with a mere $200 in assets despite decades there and a long history of business success (see Bridget Mason, slave to real estate wealth). Now, consider the wealth within Asian communities that exceeds white Americans and I ask. "Why do you begrudge Black Americans obtaining wealth in their homeland?" Note, African households have $60,000 in assets.
One nation, under God, with liberty and justice for all? Understand the anger within the ADOS community. Four hundred years of service to America. What do they own? Who owns the gas stations in their city? Who rents to them? Who owns homes that they cannot afford? Who occupies slots in colleges they apply to? Who gets college tuition paid by their ethnic group? Who is spending millions on ESL? Who is competing with them for political leverage for their group? Who is holding signs that read BLACK LIVES MATTER?
